NLP success and Dianetics

NLP Success

I met an old friend who was extremely worried as it turned out that the girl of his dreams was not exactly the girl of his dreams. He met me right after having a very traumatic incident with that girl.He was sad , disappointed and was thinking of himself a real loser.. Thats when i thought of applying an old forgotten NLP trick on him..

I asked him of to think of all the worst things that can happen to him .. he did so..then i asked him to tell me about the best things that can happen to him..he did that too.. I asked him the first question again... and then the second question again.. I kept repeating it..making him answers to me louder everytime... This is known as pattern breaking... I dont want to go into much detail basically because i do not remember the precise science behind it..but whatever ..the thing worked and the guy was all ok and fine...He left feeling great and confident..

There was another trick that i applied on him..I dont know the name of it but i have applied it so many time during my academic life ..it a special breathing mechanism through which you can get rid of all the negative thoughts in mind.. I dont remember how i learnt it.. but i recently read that this is a very good technique to awake the kundalini...

I now feel very satisfied when the guy tells that both the tricks helped him a lot...I regret now for not practicing these things earliers.. This was my first attempt..though i learnt the course an year ago..

DIANETICS / SCIENTOLOGY

Dianetics has started managing its office in Islamabad..They offered a Seminar on Communication Skills this sunday..

A few concepts that i learnt follow:

A man is composed of a body , a mind and a soul ...
Body: it is the physical thing that we can see.. i.e our organs..
Mind: it is the collection of mental images that we have...i.e it is the collection of all our memories..this is not only limited to visual pictures but also the memory of other senses.
Soul(Thetan): it is us...we ... the spirit..the thing in us that thinks...

Reactive Mind: According to the concepts of dianetics , all of us have a reactive mind that stores traumatic memories and these traumatic memories keep haunting us all our life.. these disturbing memories are called engrams.

Auditing: Auditing is a procedure in which a guy who wants to get rid of the thoughts in the reactive mind sits with a councilor (called orator) and talks about various incidents of his life.. the orator takes once incident at a time and asks the guy to reapeat telling about the incident again and again each time giving more information about the incident.. Finally the guy starts feeling fine about his traumatic experience and gets rid of the engram cause by that experience.. The auditing session continues as long as a person is completely clear of all the engrams.. Such a person is then termed as a CLEAR in terms of dianetics.

About Aliens:
I read somewhere that dianetics is related to an idea that long ago aliens invaded Earth and brainwashed the people. but in the seminar , they didnt tell us any such story..besides even the main stream article on wiki doesnt say so..so i guess that was just a rumour.. I spoke to the manger of the dianetics office here and he didnt know about any such thing..

About the Communication Seminar
It was a nice seminar.. cant write much as i have already spent too much time writing about Dianetics.. There were some communication exercises in the seminar which seemed good to me.. At the end of the seminar they showed us a video of Tom Cruise saying good words about the Dianetics .. He is famous for actively supporting Dianetics.. Celebrities like him make marketing quite easier.. :)

Dianetics offers variey of courses like the Basic moral values , career growth, learning the methods to study, etc.. Basically these are all self development courses...I may or may not take some course...All depends on what if feel about it in future...My first experience was fine..and i may go for another one, though i am more interested in knowing the Aliens stuff... :( . Self improvement is good but the alien thing is really kool... :)

Is there anything too hokey for you to believe in :D

Scientology space myths with references to books/audio links of Hubbard:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_opera_in_Scientology_doctrine

Dianetics:

psuedoscientific hokum, and unlike Emoto but exactly like NLP, catergorically refuted as unscientific and based on completely incorrect and/or fictitious mental models, for which I can give you references to "peer reviewed" published medical papers.

Furthermore, their reactive mind/engrams concept is basically a description of the portion of the brain called amgdala, which is the unconscious, emotional memory core and processing zone. only problem is you cant get rid of most of your "reactive mind" because your thinking brain is in another area, nor should you want to get rid of your "reactive mind" if you dont want to become Spock from star trek.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdala

Overcoming trauma through systematic desensization is something psychotherapists routinely do. What folks like NLP/Dianetics do is wrap a mythical foil around it and eventually make stupid claims based on *their understanding* of the science of their time.

For instance, L.R.Hubbard on the "reactive mind"

Quote:

What can it do? It can give a man arthritis, bursitis, asthma, allergies, sinusitis, coronary trouble, high blood pressure and so on, down the whole catalog of psychosomatic ills, adding a few more which were never specifically classified as psychosomatic, such as the common cold."

- L. Ron Hubbard (Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health, 1999 paperback edition, pg.69)

ps: you owe me a mail

Raza...the space article that you cited is among the list of "Articles with unsourced statements" ..

For once ,can you come up with something solid...

and if you look into the meaning of mind as defined by Hubbard, you will understand that it has nothing to do with makin you spock..you can read the meaning on my post..thats why i keep asking you to read the things before commenting..

Also The definition of 'mind'is bilkul different in NLP than the the one by Hubbard..its great that you can copy and paste things from other unsourced sites ..but it will be better if you try to do some reasacrch and then give me something solid after proper analysis..I prefer to discuss things with intellgent people not with copy pasting libraries..

If you only want to believe in things that you read on internet then you are bigger blind follower than me..

i love to discuss things ..and you are not the only person with whom i talk on such issues ... but i dont get much "Food for thought" from your comments..instead i feel like a lot of time getting wasted in explaining things to you..and believe me a much bigger portion of time is wasted in removing the proper answerable arguments from your hate words for such things....

you do talk about scientific method of researching but i dont find any such method applied in your debates. your debates show your feelings..not a science.

Where does it say that, I must have missed it, and still cant find it. It seems to have been a "featured article" and unlike usual wikies Scientology was selected as a "featured series".

the article either sources everything to his books, or the lectures, some of which are actually posted as audio links on a site they reference.

Did you scroll down to see the references at all? Perhaps you can only read the statements that HAVE sources (and those sources being his books/lectures) and focus on merely those descriptions.

Not sure what your mean here, whether the entire content is unsupported or portions of if or what. Most of the Xenu stuff by the way is from his book, the one with the volcano on it (to trigger innate engrams)

No, getting rid of the "reactive mind" which he cites as the source of *asthma* is akin to making you spock. If you read my post I've drawn the parallel with amgdala because biologically that is the core of your emotions.

Furthermore the amgydala can be called the reactive mind because its processing precedes the rational processing of the neocortex and produces learned reactive behavior associated with something in one's past. And no this isnt a copy paste, I used to do AI research on emotions, i promise. So not only is the amgdala one's reactive mind it is also the repository of early traumas. What an amygdala contains are what can be likened to "engrams". Grainy memories of the past associated with a strong emotion, and the amygdala is also responsible for our instinctive and irrational reactions in moments of anger or fear.

Early medical scientists thought they could fix people by disconnecting the amgdala (or the temporal lobes (called lobotomy)). People have had that part of their brain surgically removed/ disconnected in an accident, and while thir nervous reactions were cut down they also lost most of their emotions and motivations.

Furthermore, it isnt possible to entirely control (or even access) emotional cores.

And while it is true that the amgydala is a "reactive brain" and a lot of the emotional reactions are stored either precluding consious thought or preceding it, it is not true that one's amydala is the cause of coronary disease or asthma or 70 or 90 percent of human diseases like he claims (which I found ridiculous).

I didnt actually post anything specific about NLP. I can though, if you want, and if your willing to listen. I will tell you this much, its mental model has been shown to be inaccurate and like dianetics it has been categorically refuted as unscientific/fictitious.

This does not mean that Im suggesting they have the same mental models, Im saying both are publicly acknowledged (in scientific circles) as pseudoscience.

you do talk about scientific method of researching but i dont find any such method applied in your debates. your debates show your feelings..not a science.

Im guessing if you have a complaint of me not reading your posts, I have the same complaint, with the addition that I do read your posts quite thoroughly.

Raza...i am keeping all this to the "War of the words"...all my subsequent wars will be in the comments on that post..you can read my most recent comment there..and please do not give comment before i finish the complete reply....

We have not yet finished with one thing and you have started with another. please keep your comments on that post and in future if you find any more information on the things that i do as pseudoscience then you can still write it on the comments in my post on war of the words..

See at the very bottom of the article whose link you provided…and you will see its category…and i am not interested in knowing what you did in your projects amalgham or bulgham project or you better start to know about Point to Point Protocol..

lets just stick to the comments on war of the words...you can tell me there what an particle articel SEEMED to you (2nd para of your comment)...or what you THOUGHT of some article makes you feel (the 7th para).or what you are guessing(the last para)..or the thing that you didnt say you introduced (see the 4th para in the first comment and then your fourth last para of the 2nd comment)..we can deal with your emotions there in "war of the words"...perhaps there you can attempt to provide some facts as well..

Sameer,

I think the breathing mechanism which you said in the post is Pranayama

Sameer Durrani said...

it was indeed Pranayama. The technique i used is alternate nose breathing.

Praanayama is the breathing technique in Yoga. Prana means breath and ayama means extend. so in total it means extending breath.
